How we help

Whether it is a few hours a week or round-the-clock support, care is built around one household at a time.

Personal Care

Respectful, hands-on help with bathing, dressing and the daily routines that keep independence intact.

Memory Care

Specialized support for Alzheimer's and dementia, built on five pillars and delivered by certified caregivers.

Post-Surgical Care

Practical help through the weeks after surgery, so recovery happens at home instead of back in a hospital bed.

Post-Partum Recovery

Help at home for a recovering mother — meals, laundry, errands and a hand with the day, so she can rest and heal.

Respite Care

Short-term cover so the family member doing the caring can rest, work, travel or simply have a day back.

Veteran Care

In-home care for veterans and surviving spouses, including help understanding whether VA benefits can cover it.

Started by someone who has done it

At fifteen, Kyana Wilkinson helped care for her father through ALS. She went on to work as a home care aide, then became a registered nurse, working in acute care, long-term care and hospice.

She and Bailey opened this agency because they know what it is like to be the family trying to work it all out — and how much difference the right help makes.

  • Dementia care led by a specialist. Owner Kyana Wilkinson is a registered nurse and Certified Dementia Practitioner, and she builds the care plans.
  • Consistent caregivers. We work hard to send the same person, because trust is built through repetition.
  • No long-term contract. Start small, change as you need to, stop when you are ready.
  • A person answers. Any hour, including nights and weekends.

Paying for care

Most families pay privately, but there are several routes worth knowing about — and one common assumption that catches people out.

Private pay

Billed for the hours provided. No long-term contract, no minimum.

Long-term care insurance

Many policies cover non-medical home care. We help with the documentation your insurer wants.

VA benefits

Aid and Attendance and Veteran-Directed Care can help eligible veterans and surviving spouses.

What Medicare does not cover

Medicare pays for skilled home health, not non-medical home care. Worth knowing early.

Agency or hire privately?

A fair question, and one worth answering honestly rather than with a sales pitch.

What an agency takes on, compared with hiring a caregiver privately
 With SYNERGY HomeCareHiring privately
Background checksDone by us, as Illinois requires for agency employeesYour responsibility to arrange and verify
Employment statusCaregivers are our W-2 employeesYou become a household employer, with filing obligations
Payroll taxesWithheld and filed by usYours to calculate, withhold and remit
Workers' compensationCarried by usYour exposure if someone is injured in your home
Liability insurance & theft coverageCarried by us, including theft of client propertyUsually not in place

Hiring privately can work well, and it is sometimes cheaper per hour. These are simply the things that become yours to manage when you do.

Questions families ask us first

How do you choose which caregiver comes to my home?

We match on the practical things — the schedule, the level of care, whether the person needs help with mobility or memory — and then on personality and preference. If a match is not working, tell us and we will change it. You are not stuck with someone who is not right.

How quickly can care start?

Often within 24 to 48 hours, and sometimes the same day for a hospital discharge. Call us as early as you can — even before you are sure you need us — and we will have a plan ready.

Is there a contract or a minimum number of hours?

No long-term contract. Care can start, change or stop as your needs change, and plenty of our clients begin with a couple of hours a week.

What is the difference between an agency and hiring privately?

With an agency, our caregivers are our W-2 employees. We handle the background checks, training, insurance, payroll taxes and workers compensation, and we send a replacement when someone is sick. Hiring privately makes all of that your responsibility, including the liability if someone is injured in your home.

Do you provide medical or nursing care?

No. We are licensed as a Home Services Agency, which covers non-medical care — personal care, homemaker and companion services. Skilled nursing and therapy require a home health agency, and we are glad to help you find one.

Not sure what you need yet?

Most people call us before they have it figured out. Tell us what is going on and we will help you work out what would actually help — no pressure, no obligation.
